Many people don’t realise that cleaning a lens is one of the common ways that they are damaged. Cleaning can leaves marks on a lens if not carried out with care and knowledge. This post outlines a straight forward and effective technique that you can use to avoid unnecessary damage.
Using a lens hood, clean the front and rear elements of a lens. A microfiber cloth and ROR fluid can also be used if needed. Kodak also sells lens tissues which work effectively as well.
Knock the big dirt particles off with a camel hair brush, blow off as much as possible, then use a microfiber cloth or lens tissue to remove fingerprints. Aim to use a new segment of the tissue/microfiber with every wipe if possible.
You may also open the back and front elements to get access to the aperture blades and inner elements for simple cleaning. This is only recommended for advanced users as the inner mechanisms can be easily damaged.
