Considering Security Camera Placement

Security cameras are an excellent theft deterrent, however if they are placed in the wrong areas, they can be rendered completely useless. Once you have decided upon a CCTV system, your next step is considering the best places to put them. For this decision, you need to:

1. Do some research- if possible, inquire which areas of the property have experienced previous break-ins, if any, by speaking to previous owners or landlords.

2. Evaluate any vulnerabilities- identify areas that are the least secured or most hidden from sight which potential thieves might consider the most opportune target.

3. Protection from weather- make sure the security cameras will be sheltered from the elements and not in the most weather vulnerable spots, so as to prolong their life. Also assess if there is any vegetation that will conceal the view of the camera or if a bright glare from the sun will degrade the images.

4. Additional Features- some cameras may have the option for night vision and weather proofing which enhances the effectiveness of the camera, so be aware of any additional associated needs.
